Inspirational stories from some of our clients
Suited to Success has offered much needed support to thousands of people. Below are just a few of our clients' success stories.
Violet "couldn't wipe the smile off her face"
I’ve wanted to go and hand my resume in to retail stores, but I just haven’t had the kind of clothes to wear that will get anyone to take me seriously. It just made me so self-conscious.
When I booked an appointment at Suited to Success, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought it would be just a big op-shop but when I saw the boutique, I couldn’t believe the number of options.
Some things still had the original tag on them!
The stylist (Janelle) was really friendly and gave me great advice about using block colours to help me stand out in a good way. As soon as I saw myself wearing this in the mirror, I just felt so confident; I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. Now, I can’t wait to pound the pavement.”

Persistence pays off for Chris
A great job outcome for Chris
“I’ve been volunteering with a Community Youth Services organisation for the past 6 months and a paid Youth Facilitator position recently became available there. I applied for it and have an interview for the role later today. Because it involves working with young people, I want to make sure that I can be seen as approachable and not too stuffy, so I definitely don’t want to wear a tie or anything else too fancy. At the same time, I still want to look neat and professional because I want to be someone that young people can aspire to be like. The outfit I got is comfortable, yet professional. I feel really confident that I can be myself at the interview.”
Update: While Chris felt confident at his interview, he was ultimately unsuccessful for this position. A few days later he attended another interview and successfully gained a position as a Mental Health Support Worker at a major hospital.

A great Job Outcome for our cleint Shermayne
Shermayne first came to Suited to Success in January 2018 to be fitted for an interview with a Travel Agency. While unsuccessful on that occasion, she persisted in her job search. Having been inspired by the service provided to job seekers at Suited to Success, Shermayne was intrigued enough to look at options in the sector. Encouraged by people within her support network, Shermayne applied for a job with a prominent Job Active provider in Brisbane’s northside, successfully gaining a role as an Employment Officer. Within a week of commencing, Shermayne was actually referring her own clients to the Styling Boutiques at Suited to Success.
“I loved my experience in the boutique. I tried on a lot of things, but I went with this outfit because I just love floral patterns. There’s even a flower on my new handbag! I want my clients to come in and look forward to seeing me, so I know that I have to look and act positive. I am excited that I have the opportunity to have a positive impact on people"
Getting back to work after 2 years and surgery
Hasitha came to us a week before attending an interview for the first time in two years. She has always worked in administration, but two years ago she developed Carpal-Tunnel Syndrome and had to take leave from her job. Following surgery, Hasitha was unable to return to her job right away due to a slow recovery and was offered a redundancy. It has been a long road back for Hasitha and she finally has the confidence and the strength to work in administration again. A Suited to Success client in 2014, Hasitha redonated the clothes she received then before attending our boutique again in March 2018. She was looked after by one of our beautiful stylists, Robyn.
“This was actually the very first outfit I tried on. I liked it, but I wanted to check out other options to compare. After trying many other looks, I went with the original because I felt the most comfortable and confident in it. I can picture myself wearing it and making a good first impression when I walk in the door. I’ve always liked Classic Black and I think the grey jacket makes it look very professional. I no longer feel nervous about the interview. It has been a struggle for the past two years, but I know I’m going to do well.”

It was such a surprise to come and find a place that helps so many people like me
Ross attended our Men's Boutique “I worked as a Park Ranger for many years. Even though I’m approaching retirement age, I want to keep working so that I feel useful. I was not aware of what Suited to Success was about or what they did. It was such a surprise to come and find a place that helps so many people like me. "I got the job! They're just sorting out my details then they'll put me on the roster. We've been communicating via email, but I'm about to go somewhere without internet for 2 days. Should I let them know in case they want to contact me? And thank you for all your help, I wouldn't have this without you. Thank you so much."

They have helped me with things such as fixing my resume, getting into a course, managing my mental health and well-being, setting up a self-care plan and helping me get into DBT therapy at New Farm Clinic.
